Responsibilities and Tasks:
Safety:
Safeguard the well-being of staff members.

Cultivate a work environment that prioritizes safety and positivity.

Set a safety-conscious example through leadership.

Perform regular safety audits.

Facilitate safety moments and participate in all safety meetings.

Provide recommendations and rationale for department expenditures.

Financial Responsibilities:
Identify and acquire equipment, hardware, and software to meet client/industry standards.

Review and approve all time and expense submissions.

Manage project budgets.

Oversee invoicing and collections.

Evaluate overruns, adjust pricing, communicate budget expectations, and improve budget adherence.

HR Responsibilities:
Address employee attendance or performance concerns.

Provide consistent performance feedback to team members.

Engage with staff through one-on-one interactions, social events, etc.

Conduct annual performance reviews.

Make recommendations for raises and bonuses with proper justification.

Planning and Supervisory Functions:
Inspire staff to perform at their best and find job satisfaction.

Lead departmental meetings to encourage communication and collaboration.

Develop and oversee departmental business plans.

Manage resource planning and staff assignments.

Address technical challenges and share lessons learned.

Manage project schedules to ensure timely completion.

Quality and Technical Expectations:
Oversee all technical aspects of the department, including:

Preparing essential calculations and verifying accuracy.

Generating surveyor reports and technical documentation.

Managing projects to stay on schedule and within budget.

Retracing boundary lines, rights-of-way, and corners.

Directing field staff to follow proper procedures and collect data.

Supervising preparation of subdivision plats, topographic, boundary, and ALTA surveys.

Developing team technical skills and competency.

Ensuring department competency through training, new hires, or third-party consultants.

Developing proposals and estimating project costs.

Hosting regular lunch and learn sessions.

Collaborating with clients, staff, and sub-consultants to ensure project success.

Business Development and Networking:
Attend networking events to generate business and recruit talent.

Regularly solicit feedback from key clients to assess staff/project performance.

Respond to client requests and communications within 24 hours.

Requirements:
Indiana Licensed Surveyor (LS): Active professional license in good standing.

Experience: Minimum 5 years in ALTA/boundary surveying, subdivision platting, and/or right-of-way engineering.

Communication Skills: Strong written and verbal communication; ability to write reports and interact professionally with clients, staff, consultants, and the public.

CAD Proficiency: Experience with Computer-Aided Drafting (CAD) or similar tools.

Professional Growth: Desire for ongoing development and readiness to mentor staff.

Team Collaboration: Ability to work effectively in a team and contribute positively.

Location: Primarily office-based, with occasional fieldwork as needed.

Authorization to Work: Must be authorized to work in the United States.
